Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports
Gateway employs PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions Support) as a schoolwide tool to recognize positive behavior that is respectful and responsible. At Gateway, reinforced behaviour is known as the ‘GateWay’. Treating ourselves, others, and property appropriately is all apart of playing our part in God’s story. a focus on helping students see the value and importance of their environment and the people that share this school with them, we are encouraging them to “Play Their Part In God’s Story”. With our two pillars of PBIS being Respect & Responsibility, students are challenged to demonstrate these traits in all aspects and areas of their school life.
Students are acknowledged when they demonstrate these behaviors by staff at our school and given a “Like Ticket” that is then entered into a draw for prizes. These prizes can range anywhere from pencils, books and other smaller items to sleds, Rebels tickets and our final draw of a brand new bicycle!Students are regularly given tickets to enter into draws for small regular prizes and 3 major draws throughout the year.
PBIS tracking also identifies areas of concern that require extra time, thought or attention. Data collected may help teachers and administrators to focus on the teaching of certain behaviours or even alter supervision habits. These choices are made in order to keep Gateway Christian School the safe, caring community that we all want it to be!
