Gateway Christian School Graduation

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” John 15:13

This passage was the theme for Gateway Christian School’s 2017 graduating class.

The ceremony began with a heartwarming processional of graduates followed by a welcoming address and opening prayer. Guest speakers included Board Trustee Dr. Bill Stuebing, RDSCE (Red Deer Society for Christian Education) Worship Coordinator Cherilyn Strom, and School Administrator Geannette Lehman.

“Love is a verb, it requires action.  Love is patient, love is kind, and it does not envy” said Lehman during her inspiring speech, imparting both wisdom and congratulations to the graduates

The valedictorian address was given by student Ashley Elgersma, who also received an international certificate and scholarship for her commitment and dedication to the school community.

During her speech, Elgersma presented a variety of objects to the audience; a thermostat from the previous Gateway Christian School building, wooden sticks found on school grounds after the recent Red Deer storm, and a box of randomly assorted objects.

Elgersma stated, “it is the stories attached to the physical objects, not the objects themselves. The same way the physical school building has little to do with who we are as students, it’s the people, the experiences we’ve had, and the laughter we’ve shared together that makes us a community”.

The ceremony concluded with a powerpoint presentation of the graduating class and a formal presentation of the graduates with their certificates by Principal Teresa Tataryn.
